This book is very good for kids and even adults. It moves at a good pace. It is silly and entertaining like most Dummies books, yet teaches at the same time. It has a few interesting projects. It touches on the major aspects of the Python programming language without going too deep.On the down side, this book teaches version 2.x. The current version is 3.x. There are a LOT of important differences between the two versions. The difference between version 2 of Python and version 3 is a bit like the difference between Spanish and Italian, close but not close enough.

This book is great for an 9 year old summer project. If i knew more kids into computers I'd definitely be giving out more of these books.

These books are always easy to use and cover the subject matter well. However in this case I give it a low rating because there is no mention and I take some of the blame that this is for Python 2 and not 3. So for my purposes the book is somewhat useless.

Bought this for a 10-year old but it's a little too advanced for that

This book is so inviting and inspiring. It actually makes you want to take pictures of everything in the world right then and there. Every chapter gets to the point. It doesn't feel like you're reading a history book. It's very engaging too. It feels as though there's a professor talking to you right there. Very good investment if you want to learn more about digital cameras and photography.

For anyone who just knows they're gong to love digital photography and wants to jump in feet first, to an advanced amateur coming over from shooting film, to anyone wanting to know the scope of what they need to know about camers, systems, software, and the works, this is the book. A great read, and a great reference.The only downside is that the captions throughout the book can probably not be read by anyone over the age of twelve. They are so light, and without contrast, to make them unreadable. Tsk, tsk, tsk. With such a beautiful book, where were the writers on press check day, out playing golf?

Jay Dickman and Jay Kinghorn are wonderfully talented men. This book is an inspiration and I found, a necessary technical text to have in my, library as a reference. It has taught me post capture skills in photoshop and lightroom and about equipment and accessories for in camera work. It is a book for the serious amateur and those looking for advanced, in camera and post capture technique. Jay Dickman gives wonderful insight into the power of photography and the techniques that help to make it so. His Images are inspiring and make you want to go discover the world and do a better job photographing it! He gives great advice in dealing with people, as well as equipment, technique, some amazing ways to use lighting and how to shoot some zany situations, I was awe struck by his police car shot and how he accomplished it, amazing! you certainly learn how the pros do it! Jay kinghorn gives step by step instruction into post capture, in Lightroom and Photoshop. You will learn about colour management, the art of printing, editing, file types, image resolution, creating great black and whites and much, much more! I found this book informative and inspiring, it's not a book to sit and read from cover to cover in one hit, its an inspiring text book and a must have, for me anyway, as a guide, reference and inspiration!

I recommend this Book Very Highly - Whether your a beginner or advanced, you'll find this book extremely helpful, as well as giving you many of the "Ah Hah's!" you want/need... I hasten to add that I have only read only read the first 80 pages, but already it has explained a lot of those things I was unsure about & more regarding 'Digital Photography'... By the way, I'm no Expert, however I have been doing photography for over 37 years (mainly 35mm & 6x6cm Film) and would rate myself as an experienced amatuer. I have completed an intensive Camera Club Course, read Umpteen Photography Books (mainly the 35mm kind) & Camera Mag's and would rate this book as the Best I have read so far... I hope that's of help to anybody (like me) who is looking to improve their photographic skills, knowledge & understanding...Larry Finn (Australia)

This is one of the better how to books I have used on a topic that is more art than science. It is easier to describe how to put in a sink than how to take a good picture. The text on using photoshop is also very good. I was able to take what they told me directly to my computer and I started seeing the results in my pictures imediately. While not an issue for me, it did seem to take some understanding of the topic before you have read. If your only experience is a point and shoot, it might be a struggle to read and understand what they are saying. It would be helpfull to have struggled with a more advanced camera for 6 months or more.

I was more interested in the "how to" Photoshop section than the book's first part on digital photography because I've been a photographer for about 40 years and was CEO of one of the first digital imaging companies. But using the first edition of PS is a far cry from the latest edition and I needed help. The book didn't disappoint. It's easy to read and, more important, easy to put into practice. I do suggest that future buyers have at least an elementary understanding of PS. Going in cold would be difficult.

A very well-written book with lots of great experience-based information. The authors talk about the techniques and gear from years of field use, not theory.

Even though this book is years old, it is still perfectly relevant. And at the discount prices, is a bargain for such an informative text. The sample images collected by the authors are inspiring. And the knowledge will be worth its weight for any budding photographer or anyone interested in creating images of any kind (i.e. film, cinematography, even theater).
